My First School Holiday

These are termite mounds.  Termites are an insect that like to bury in the ground and they build large mounds like these egg shape rocks.  They were everywhere along the highway in Exmouth.Termites are insects and commonly known, especially in Australia as "white ants", they are only distantly related to the ants.Termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundred to several million individuals. Termites live in colonies which explore for food sources and environments unavailable to any single insect acting alone. A typical colony contains nymphs (youngsters), workers, soldiers, and several egg-laying queens.
